What is Coccydynia?
Any sort of persistent tailbone discomfort is referred to as coccydynia. The coccyx is the medical term for the tailbone, which is positioned at the very bottom of the spine. Coccydynia is a type of localised discomfort that becomes worse when you sit specially on a non-cushioned surface or ride two wheeler or do anything that puts pressure on the bottom of your spine.Coccydynia patients usually have a history of trivial injury or fall on buttocks or history of sitting for long hours that precede the pain.Coccydynia is also a common complaint after delivery. Coccydynia caused by these factors is typically not permanent, but if left untreated, it can become quite persistent and chronic.
Treatment options include:
- Medication & rest
- Use of a specially designed Pillow that prevents pressure on Tailbone even when you are sitting
- Pain block management
- Very rare cases may need Surgery
