What is Low Back Pain?
The most common symptom that patients bring to our OPD is low back discomfort.
It is, in fact, one of the most prevalent medical diseases for which treatment is seeked.
It could be due to a various different factors.
The most prevalent causes of acute low backache include muscle pull, ligament and joint
Sprains or slipped disc or ruptures. These injuries can cause significant low back pain, but the majority of them are harmless and heal on its own in due course of time. Unusual bending or weight lifting exercise are the most typical causes of this type of injury.
Medicines/conservative treatment and physiotherapy are used to treat these injuries, and they normally heal in six weeks or less.
Muscle weakness is another prevalent cause of low back pain.
Low backache could also be caused by a lack of hydration, sleep, physical activity, improper mattress and sleeping postures, sitting incorrectly, and working long hours.
Disc degeneration (when a disc loses its elasticity and pressure-absorbing capability), spine instability (when one vertebral bone slips over another), spine infections, spine malignancies (cancer), and inflammatory illnesses like ankylosing spondylitis are all prevalent causes of backache (In systematic inflammatory diseases of the spine the mobility of the spine is decreased).
Low backache that lasts more than 6-12 weeks is a common symptom of these issues.
